What is Matter?
Matter is a new and open smart home standard developed by the Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA). Matter leverages a number of common connectivity technologies to make a truly intelligent and interconnected smart home not only possible, but simple too. With Matter your favorite smart home devices, even those from different brands, seamlessly connect and work together, unifying your devices and simplifying your life.

Matter Controllers
Matter Controllers act as central devices at the core of Matter smart homes, controlling the flow of information and making sure commands are received and completed. Matter Controllers are necessary, but don’t have to be dedicated devices. Some existing devices in your home may be able to become your home’s Matter Controller.

Matter implements industry-leading measures to safeguard user data, keeping it away from anyone but you. It works locally, without using the cloud, for even more security. Does Matter work with Apple Home?Yes, Matter and Apple Home are compatible. To use a Matter accessory with Apple Home, users can add the accessory via the Home app, or any other Apple Home-compatible apps.

Which devices can act as Matter Controllers?Apple: HomePod (1st and 2nd generation), HomePod mini, iPad, and Apple TV.
SmartThings: SmartThings Hub V2 and V3.
Alexa: Echo Dot (3rd, 4th, and 5th generation), Echo Dot with Clock (5th generation), Echo (3rd generation), and Echo Show.
Google: Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Hub (1st & 2nd generation), and Nest Wi-Fi Pro.
